B.Sc. Nursing
The Bachelor of Science Nursing program is offered by the College of Faculty of Nursing and Medical Science to empower understudies to become registered nurses. B.Sc. Nursing is a four-year undergraduate program that covers a wide range of subjects including Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Nutrition and Psychology. According to the WHO report, worldwide the demand for nursing professionals is extremely high in both government and private sectors.
The faculty of b.sc. nursing designed the course to cover both theoretical aspects and practical training in healthcare management, medical assistance and patient care. After completing Best B.Sc. nursing understudies can opt for advanced roles like Nurse Practitioners (NP), who diagnose and treat patients, and Certified Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA), who administer anaesthesia.
The entry-level salary ranges from ?3LPA to ?5LPA.
What are the key study areas in B.Sc. Nursing?
- Anatomy: Using the method of dissection, the study of living organisms' structure and organization at both macroscopic and microscopic levels.
- Biochemistry: To study living matter by combining the concepts of biology and chemistry, it is a laboratory-based science that involves analyses of chemical processes at the molecular level. Some branches of biochemistry are medical biochemistry, physical biochemistry, enzymology, and xenobiotics.
- Nursing foundations: It is zeroed in on the core principle of caregiving and the fundamentals of nursing to prepare students for patient care and immediate response to assist patients in critical medical conditions.
- Pharmacology: It is the study of how drugs and chemicals affect the body, aiming to develop new drugs while ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medication. The key areas are pharmacokinetics (how drugs are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted) and pharmacodynamics (how drugs exert their effects on the body).
- Pathology: It is the study of diseases and diagnoses (cause, mechanism, effects, and structure). It is also a laboratory-based science. The branches of pathology are general pathology, systemic pathology, and clinical pathology.
- Medical-surgical nursing: is a core subject in B.Sc. Nursing focuses on the care of pediatric and adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. It prepares nursing students to provide comprehensive care, combining theoretical knowledge with clinical skills to manage illnesses and promote recovery, and rehabilitation.
- Community health nursing: focuses on promoting, maintaining, and restoring health within communities. They also contribute to providing health education and immunization programs at PHC and CHC levels.
- Pediatric Nursing: Pediatric Nursing is a particular area of nursing zeroed in on providing care to infants, children, and adolescents. It envelops health promotion, disease prevention, and the management of illnesses.
- Obstetric and gynecological nursing: It focuses on the care of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The key areas are maternal health (obstetrics), gynecological health, high-risk obstetric care, infertility nursing, and sexual and reproductive health education.
- Mental health nursing: It is focused on the care of individuals who are suffering from mental disorders, also known as psychiatric nursing.
